Nōku’s best selling Wairere Dress is a true staple silhouette that everybody loves! Made from a breathable mix of linen/cotton, this dress is both comfortable and stylish

Wairere translates to flowing water/waterfall, hence the inspiration on the gathered silhouette of this dress, it creates a generous fit that is flattering for all shapes and sizes and completed with our Matariki tohu (design) which is embroidered on the back.

Featuring a flattering V-neckline, Short sleeves, and a Hi-low hemline.

Matariki Design

This tohu is called Matariki. She is placed in the centre of this tohu amongst her eight children. The Poutama (ascending) and Pouhine (descending) each represent a learning from each of the stars.

Below is a brief explanation of each star and what they represent.

Ngā whetū o Matariki

-Waitī: Fresh water

-Waitā: Salt water

-Waipunārangi: Rain

-Tupuānuku: Kai from the ground

-Tupuārangi: Kai from the sky (trees birds etc)

-Ururangi: Winds

-Hiwa-i-te-rangi: Wishing star sending Dreams and desires

-Pōhutukawa: the star that takes our loved ones that have passed on to their next journey in the next world

-Matariki: the mother star of all of the above. She herself is associated with good health and well-being for all

We designed this tohu alongside Josh Hurae @Ukaipōarts who really helped bring our whakaaro (thoughts) to life.
