Our Koromahanga Dress is a custom piece that we designed, from sourcing the fabric, to working very closely with a local seamstress to construct the garment itself, we are so excited and thrilled to share our NEW Koromahanga dress with you. Each garment is individually sewn with love and care, right here in Kahungunu, Hawkes Bay.
Koromahanga (to tie into a bow) this name was inspired by the ability to adjust and tie the garment around the waist.
Taniko Pattern
This design was inspired by a traditional weaving technique used by our ancestors. With the inability to use curved lines these patterns were made using triangles, diamonds, diagonal bars and stepped patterns.
Some common shapes seen within a Taniko design are Niho Taniwha (larger triangles) nihoniho (smaller triangles) Waharua (Outline of a diamond shape) kaokao (shape of a M or W) these patterns are most commonly seen as embellishments on kakahu Māori like korowai (Cloak), kapahaka bodices, tīpare (headbands) and belts
